THE SCULPTURE KIT
Residency with In-Situ
November 2023 – March 2024
My residency with In-Situ, Brierfield, explored the relationship between sculpture making, co-production and childcare. My 2-year-old daughter was my collaborator and came to every residency day with me.
We played together in the project space at In-Situ, and visited community playgroups in Brierfield. From this activity, we developed “the sculpture kit,” made from tin foil, tissue paper, masking tape, wool, pipe cleaners and toilet roll. Each of these materials can be transformed individually or combined together. They can be manipulated with simple gestures and are easily affordable and available.

The residency concluded with three public play sessions where the sculpture kit was presented to other children and their parents/carers as possibilities for making.

The “sculpture bundle” was another outcome. Gathering and binding the aftermath of play presented a new possibility for co-produce sculptural forms.
